The Healing Power of Destruction
Exactly a year ago, Dani and I hopped into my car and drove to the bleeding and burning south to deliver supplies to the troops. This was probably the most insane and amazing thing I've ever done. As Dani described it later: "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas meets Apocalypse Now."
We made half a dozen such trips, first delivering stuff others donated, later buying equipment ourselves after people were kind enough to donate us some funds. You can read more about this insane adventure in an article I wrote for the Spectator for the anniversary of October 7.
Today, we returned to the Gaza Envelope, but this time as a road trip. We found a peaceful and healing South and an utterly devastated Gaza. Last time we were shelled often and had to run for shelter several times. Today, all the explosions we saw and heard were on the enemy's side. Such a healing experience. Some people may see fault in finding solace in the destruction of your enemy, but in the words of the Punisher, “we don’t choose the things that fix us.”
We found a nice hill and observed Beit Hanoun and Gaza for a while, the occasional boom disturbing an otherwise magically peaceful afternoon.
We took photos of Beit Hanoun and Gaza, both of which now look like huge landfills. Perhaps the largest on the planet.
It is an awesome sight. You can be the richest man on the planet, fly to space, dive into the deepest trench, have a party with all the Hollywood stars, but this is not something you can buy. You have to be there. You have to see it. Be a part of it.
It is a terrible thing to say, but in a way, we’re privileged to have seen it and been a part of it. In another way, it would have been so much better for everyone if October 7 had never happened. Alas, we don’t get to choose our times, only what we do with them.
The photos of Gaza and Beit Hanoun are blurry because we took them by pressing the phone lens to the binoculars, a mode of zoom that requires two hands and a good deal of dexterity.
We plan to visit the area again soon, perhaps this time with better equipment.
This is the kind of article I’ll post once per week from now on. Seed of Amalek will return next week too. It’s going to be epic!
