Western liberalism has devolved into a reflexive form of white saviorism, itself rooted in the intense white guilt all good liberals know to feel toward those poorer and browner, the common link between the moral crusades for BLM/George Floyd, Palestinians, and now migrants.

The causes may change but the script doesn't: an innocent BIPOC/Noble Savage is menaced by a white colonialist oppressor, who must be defeated by a coalition led by white allies blessed with superior levels of empathy and "critical consciousness", who help their charges achieve justice and liberation. It is a pagaent of performative moralism designed to "raise awareness" of the activist class, who have no sense of identity or life purpose except BEING SEEN cosplaying the role of enlightened radical.

This crusade by guilt-ridden Western bourgeois (mostly) women is meant to perform atonement, seek redemption and display how much more righteous they are than their political enemies, who are the main audience for these displays. (The POC victims are really just props and extras, their actual lives and needs are irrelevant.)

Their entire project is a post-religious psychodrama to find all the meaning, community and confessions of sin/guilt that religions provide. The Church of Social Justice is Christianity with Jesus replaced by a rotating cast of victimized POCs, who each get their turn on the cross.

This is why that poor fool yesterday got himself killed to keep an Ecuadorian criminal from being deported. He was following a script written by others, hoping to be recognized for being one of the Good Whites. And I guess he got his wish...

Literal suicidal empathy.

You are correct in using the religious metaphor. However, in this religion there is actually no hope of redemption. No matter how many "ally" lives are sacrificed, it will not atone.

Clever Pseudonym's avatar

I guess it replicates religion and its patterns while omitting some crucial elements, most esp metaphysics, a deity or dieties, and genuine rituals of atonement and redemption.

The anti ice mob is a mob. It’s interesting how they’re often more menacing than ice but don’t perceive themselves that way. I wish ice would narrow its mission to criminals and people who entered during the lawless period but you can’t sanction ice doing whatever it wants just bc protestors are obstructing. Renee good looks like a tragic accident. I don’t like the view that ice should’ve done this and that to avoid bc it’s basically a license to have obstructing protestors. In an ideal world it would’ve been handled better but this stuff moves fast. I got the impression she was trying to hightail it away and did so in a way that could easily be misinterpreted. The other case I’m concerned bc if he didn’t wield a weapon you can’t pretend he did and you can’t sanction this reaction to seeing a weapon that isn’t being used or reached for. We have a second amendment. I remember long time ago reading about a guy who told a rookie police officer he had a gun and was a legal owner and the officer just panicked and shot him and it’s not okay. I don’t want to make a judgment yet till all the facts come out but I’m not enjoying hearing that Americans can’t carry legal firearms. Of course I agree that utterly amoral people are looking for this ending for propaganda purposes

Like the police forces in the UK, the police in “sanctuary cities” are no longer tough law and order types concerned about public order, but trained in social attitude adjustment, which they then cloak with a pretense of concern for rights, while they abet actual criminals in the intimidation of citizens and providing support for the Left who pay them in protection and tax theft schemes. The suicidal empathy of the Anglosphere obliges even people who aren’t suicidal ly empathic to try to Play Fair when they are being robbed, raped, and murdered by enemies. The Anglo-Western mind is not constructed to recognize enemies who plan— it thinks somehow all real enemies are just misunderstood, and that the evils must somehow be addressed by Both-Sides-ism.

The activist Left today is a combination of tens of thousands of useful idiots backed by the deep pockets of the enemies of western civilization. The useful idiots think they’re fighting for “social justice” but their funders know they’re simply tools of chaos and anarchy.

I'm not on the left but I think the Trump administration has gone too far, as do a majority of Americans, to the point that Congressional Republicans are now calling for investigations. There's a lot of bad will on both sides. The protesters are behaving obnoxiously, and the agents are behaving thuggishly. Yet the ones with all the power are the not the protesters. I recently read statements from police chiefs (who tend to be conservative and who generally support immigration enforcement) that their off-duty cops are lodging complaints about being stopped and asked for ID and being manhandled. At least one of them said that the off-duty cops under his jurisdiction who were approached by ICE were people of color.

So I think we do have a problem. And also, Trump promised to deport the criminals, but his agents are detaining and deporting people who, yes, broke the law to come here, but are otherwise law abiding. And most Americans don't have the stomach for that. I personally know someone, a wonderful, kind, very non-criminal sort of person, a hard working man, who was suddenly snatched off the street, his cell phone taken away, and deported to Honduras. We couldn't reach him, and another friend of his who was also trying to reach him finally made contact. I don't even know if he was able to get back together with his wife and kids.

Trump gets a lot of credit for stopping the bleeding at the border. But I'm seeing a lot of unnecessary cruelty.

By the way, I reviewed the video of the man who was shot yesterday. I don't know the law, but it's very clear that he was shot after he was restrained. Protesters ought not to be obnoxious. But being obnoxious shouldn't get you killed. I can't escape the conclusion that there are members of our law enforcement — and the people who cheer them on — who do not believe that human life is sacred. They do not view the shooting deaths of people who disagree with them politically with horror. And that's horrifying.

Your seeing a lot of "unnecessary cruelty" is exactly what Uri was writing about. The leftist strategy is to turn up the heat so that people such as yourself will be confused and 'both side's the situation. Don't fall for it.

Part of it is that ICE/CBP are violating constitutional protections in the way they are rounding people up, and also when they catch US citizens in their net they damage them too. The US was never a “show us your documents now!” society before also. If you look at the last mass deportation in US history in the 1950s, it ended also because too many US citizens were being deported. I think many Americans would like a reformed immigration system that helps crack down on illegal immigration without yanking thousands of people out of their homes and also putting a cloud of fear over law abiding folks, but that isn’t what the government is offering here. Obama’s, Bush’s, Biden’s deportations were more along those lines than what is currently happening.

Of course none of this is to excuse the Watermelon Brigade that attaches itself to everything to make it about Palestine, but I don’t think that is what these shootings are about at all.

Christopher Hicken's avatar

I watched the same videos that you watched. It appears that even after he was on the ground and had two or three agents on top of him, he continued to fight them and continued to reach for his weapon. Perhaps he was disarmed moments before he was shot, but you cannot expect every agent to be aware of every circumstance during such a heated scrum. Once the agents knew that he had a gun and that he was still attempting to reach for it, he was doomed. Also, even if all of the agents had been aware that his gun was out of his possession, there is nothing to assure them that he was not attempting to reach for a back-up weapon. Those agents followed their training, and now an otherwise good man who was a contributing member of society is dead.

Here's a goodfaith question: if ICE really was about enforcing immigration and stamping out illegal immigration, which I fully support (I want mass deportations of illegals), why are they in Minneapolis? Isn't it more likely that the majority of illegals are probably in far more southerly states which were closer to the loose borders? If it's over Somali fraud, why would ICE be involved? The majority of Somalis there are citizens or otherwise legally there, including I guarentee, 100% of the fraudsters. Sounds like an IRS issue, not ICE. So, do tell?

Uri, you make the accurate point that large numbers were deported during the Obama presidency. (Not sure on Biden) But he did it with less fanfare and sabre rattling. No one got shot. So clearly that can be done. Trump wants the fan fare, not just the numbers deported. He also is happy to make the martyrs. Trump does not need to do it this way, he chooses to for a reason. He invites "the left" and they accept the invitation. Poor politics on both sides. I note also that both Cesar Chavez, the great Union organiser, and Bernie Sanders, the now rather confused old leftie with his knickers in a twist, also opposed unlawful immigration.

DaChazz's avatar

As you point out, previous administrations deported more illegals. They did it legally and more efficiently. This administration flouts the law at every turn and has no interest in illegals, just people of color and those who oppose them politically.

No one is defending foreign criminals. We are defending our neighbors. Those of us whose families escaped from police states recognize that just because they haven't come for us yet doesn't mean they won't.

They have seized absolute power and declared that they are above the law. My family, along with many other patriots, served and sacrificed to defend this country from tyranny. So yes, many like-minded groups have sprung up to organize peaceful protests. Peaceful does not mean that we will be docile doormats.

Throwing me a bone by out-crazying the mullahs and jihadis is great, but that doesn't give anyone the right to suspend the law, enable and pardon actual criminals, and be crowned king. My tribe should not be that desperate for approval. And our existence tends to piss kings off eventually.

This is the logic of a Nazi. It’s the logic that commits humanity to a race to the bottom where no morality, no decency, and no values can be acknowledged, never mind respected or honored.

It’s also a genocidal logic (and yes Palestine must be safe and welcoming for Israelis, and Israel must be welcoming and safe for Palestinians), but of course genocidal logic is always Nazi logic. And the logic and “thinking” exhibited in this piece go FAR beyond a numb “NOT-SEE-ism” that tries to pretend that the US and Israel are not conducting genocide in Gaza and the West Bank. It exposes itself as something that can no longer be gently prodded as weak “NOT-SEE-ism” but must now be squarely labeled as pure and forceful Nazism.

Yes Uri, nonviolent resistance does provoke violence. It can offer its practitioners up for sacrifice, victimization, or martyrdom. This is something that some people (“pwogwessives”) try to naively deny (a weaker form of “NOT-SEE-ism” that can also be dangerous or tragic.) But to get indignant and condemnatory about this does not merely align you with people like Bull Connor, it pinions you in history next to Goebbels, Himmler, Mengele, and Hitler. Is that what you want? What does it gain you?

Oh, and … Palestine must be safe and welcoming for Israelis, and Israel must be welcoming and safe for Palestinians.

Venezuela gave drugs to Hezbollah, the biggest terrorist organisation in the world, the present administration are right to deal with the immigration problem, that was crazy under Biden, because a lot may be terrorists. No wonder the left are so rabid about that, they wanted to break the system by any means necessary. Also they have zero compassion, they are cold calculating ideologues. Their compassion and empathy is from a book, it's is always pointed and political. The other weird thing is the Popes and dictators like Castro and Maduro, on one hand they say no, while their left hand feeds that machine. Both were educated by Vatican schools.
